DEFINITIONS & QUALIFICATIONS
ALL AROUND AWARDS: All around and reserve all around will be given for Pee Wee-WT, Pee Wee-WTL, Junior and Senior age divisions. These will be awarded based on the total number of year end points each contestant has accumulated with one horse/rider combination. An exception to this rule will be allowed in the case of a death or major injury to horse with a veterinarian certificate. Horse may not be ridden for points for the remainder of the year. Accumulated points will go to the NEW horse. An all around horse must qualify in its respective halter class in order to be eligible for this award. Showmanship is NOT considered a halter class. A horse/rider must show and qualify (meaning you must show at least 5 times in the same class, regardless of your placing) in at least ONE English class and ONE western class. Classes that the rider earns points in will count, even if they do not qualify in that class. An ANNUAL FEE of $25 will be assessed to run for All Around.
ENGLISH CLASSES: Hunter Under Saddle, English Disciplined Rail, Hunt Seat Equitation, Hunter Hack.
WESTERN CLASSES: Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Disciplined Rail, Western Horsemanship, Trail, Western Riding, Reining.
CLASS AWARDS: Awards will be given in each class for the highest points accumulated for the year provided each class is sponsored and provided there are qualified horses and riders. To qualify in a class, the horse and rider combination must compete five (5) TIMES IN THAT CLASS. An exception will be for the weanling halter class, when a weanling will be required to show only 4 of the 9 shows to qualify for year end awards.
DISCIPLINED RAIL: This is a rail class judging the RIDER’S posture, hands, seat, and legs. The judge MAY ask for stop, back, side pass, turn on the haunches or forehand, counter canter or any other safe work of the rail at the judge’s discretion. An extended jog or gallop may also be in requested in appropriate classes.
DRESS CODES: No T-shirts will be allowed with the exception of the designated shows specified by the officers. These shows will allow the CURRENT YEAR SSRC T-shirts to be worn during the hot weather months. All other shows must be in
compliance with designated rules.
FUNDRAISER CLASSES: The points from these classes do not accumulate toward year end awards. These classes are used to promote practice with your horse and to go out and have fun. The proceeds are used to help with the awards present at the end of the year.
HORSE AND RIDER COMBINATION: This is the horse and rider accumulating points together. If a contestant rides another horse, a different set of points are accumulated.
NOVICE: A SENIOR ADULT RIDER who qualifies under a breed association’s designated novice rules.
A. If you won the belt buckle in a given novice class at SSRC, you are no longer considered novice in THAT class.
B. Is 19 years of age on or before January 1 of the year of application and no longer eligible to compete in youth classes.
C. Has not shown, judged, trained or assisted in training a horse for remuneration, monetary or otherwise, either directly or indirectly, nor received remuneration for instructing another person in riding, driving, training or showing a horse for five calendar years previous to application for amateur membership.
D. The notice must sign the affidavit on the show bill.
PLEASURE/SADDLE TYPE: Non-stock type horses such as Arabians, Half-Arabians, Morgans, Saddlebreds, etc….
PONY: At mature height, the equine will be 14 HANDS (56 inches) and below. Height will be measure at the highest point of the withers.
RULE BOOK: The 2010 AQHA rule book will govern the SSRC shows with the exception of the SSRC current year rule book. The judges and/or the executive board’s ruling is final.
YEAR END HIGH POINT AND RESERVE HIGH POINT: There will be an English High Point, English Reserve High Point, Western High Point and Western Reserve High Point in each age division for the horse/rider combination with the most total points at year end. To be eligible for High Point and Reserve High Point for year end awards a one horse/one rider combination must show in at least 5 shows in that discipline to qualify.
ENGLISH - A High Point and Reserve High Point buckle will consist of points from Hunter Under Saddle, English Pleasure-Pleasure Saddle Types, Hunt Seat Equitation, English Disciplined Rail and Hunter Hack.
HALTER - A High Point and Reserve High Point buckle will be awarded to the horse with the most points in halter at the end of the year.
WESTERN - A High Point and Reserve High Point buckle will consist of points from Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Pleasure-Pleasure Saddle Types, Western Horsemanship, Western Disciplined Rail, Trail, Western Riding and Reining.
1. GENERAL RULES
A. All dogs are to be kept in the trailer and/or in your horses stall and are NOT allowed in the arena, warm up arena, stall area, or bleachers. This is for the safety of the riders, spectators, horses AND the dog! NO EXCEPTIONS!!! This also included NOT TYING YOUR DOG!!!
B. All spectators must stand back from the arena rails and speak softly during all classes, etc….Children unattended are NOT allowed around the chutes, bleachers, or alleyways. This is for the safety of the horse and rider in the said classes, as well as for the spectators. PLEASE DO NOT PERMIT CHILDREN TO RUN UP AND DOWN THE BLEACHERS!!!
C. Spectators will not be allowed in the alleyways. Spectators should use common arena courtesy, and keep “safety first” in mind. Alleyway into the arena must be clear at all times. There should be no spectators, trainers, or riders on horseback blocking any of the alleyways or entrances into the arena.
D. The information that you provide on the class card must be correct in order for you to receive earned points. PLEASE WRITE CLEARLY!!! Use the same name and same spelling of your horses name
throughout the year so points will be accurate. (For example: Majestic Commander is used as horse’s name on some cards, do not use the horse’s nickname, Magic, on a different card.)
E. The contestants are responsible for filling out a show bill as well as individual class cards completely and correct at the beginning of each show. All contestants will be assigned a back number to be used for the entire show season.
F. Contestants and spectators are asked to refrain from disturbing the announcer, the score keeper, or any other volunteer conducting club business while the classes are in progress.
G. Contestants will be expected to enter the arena through the alleyway and exit through the side gate. No other entrances/exits will be allowed during the show.
H. Contestants will be given 3 gate calls.
I. Class must be sponsored in order for entrants to receive Year-End Awards. EACH PERSON WORKING TOWARD A YEAR END AWARD MUST ACQUIRE A SPONSORSHIP BY THE APRIL 24, 2010 SHOW, OR THEY WILL FORFEIT ACCUMULATED POINTS. NEW MEMBERS MUST ACQUIRE SPONSORSHIPS WITHIN THREE MONTHS OF JOINING OR FORFEIT ACCUMULATED POINTS.
J. Horses not being ridden must be kept in stalls that are available for RENT, or tied to your trailer. NO HORSES can be tied to any arena, pen, stalls or anywhere but to your trailer or in rented stall. ALL STALLIONS MUST BE KEPT IN THE STALLS OR INSIDE THE TRAILER. NO EXCEPTIONS.
II. GOVERNING BODIES:
A. The officers of SSRC are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity, Parliamentarian, and Youth Officers.
B. The Executive Board consists of the current elected adult officers and reserves the right to make changes during the year as needed.
C. A president can only serve 2 consecutive terms. After sitting out a year, the person may run for this officer again.
D. Grievance Committee: If a member wants to file a grievance, they may file a grievance on the provided grievance form, stating reasons and evidence supporting claim. This may be turned into any available officer. At this time, the member will post a deposit fee of $100. The committee, consisting of available officers will meet that day, before the end of the show. At this time, the committee will hear the complaint and decide if the decision will stand or be changed. The $100 deposit fee will be forfeited if the grievance is rejected. If the committee is in favor of the grievance, then the deposit fee will be refunded.
III. MEMBERSHIP:
A. Membership: $15 per person, $30 for 2 persons, and $35 for 3 or more in the family.
1. Memberships are not transferable.
2. Family members must reside in the same household.
3. No refunds of membership dues.
4. Rule books will be issued after membership dues are paid.
B. Age Divisions:
PeeWee WT - 13 & Under
PeeWee WTL - 13 & Under
Junior - 14 to 18
Senior - 19 & Over
C. Age of the contestant will be the age of the individual on January 1st of the current year and shall be maintained throughout the year. A copy of contestant’s birth certificate may be required to verify age. A contestant may move up an age division but may not move back down in the same year. The only exception would be a PeeWee rider who loses his/her horse due to death or injury. This rider may change PeeWee division without losing their points.
D. Any member in violation of club rules may be brought before the executive board for explanation. If in violation, the member will lose all riding privileges,
with no refund of monies paid.
E. A $30 NSF charge will be assessed on all returned checks. If the NSF check and fee are not paid in cash, the rider will not be allowed to show again and all points will be forfeited until the total amount due is paid in full by cash or money order.
F. Judge’s decision is final after consultation with Executive Board members in a respectful and considerate fashion.
G. Any member that is suspended will be brought before the Executive Board after one calendar year for readmission into the club pending board approval.
H. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on show grounds - ANYWHERE OR ANYTIME. Anyone seen with alcohol or showing signed of drunken behavior can and will be asked to leave.
I. Members shall follow safety rules and conduct themselves as sportsman at all times.
J. Members shall inform their guests of these rules. Foul or dirty language will not be permitted. There are children at our shows and this is a family atmosphere.
IV. SHOW RULES:
A. A current NEGATIVE COGGINS will be checked at each show. This also applied to horses not entered in SSRC approved classes. An inspector will be at shows periodically to check for current tests. COGGINS ARE MANDATORY AND MUST BE SHOWN PRIOR TO ENTRY INTO THE SHOW. HORSE WILL NOT BE ENTERED UNTIL COGGINS IS PROVIDED. The coggins shall be made with the last 12 months. Current health certificates will also be accepted.
Suggestions: Attach copies of coggins to show bill in advance. Coggins can be faxed to arena in case of emergency. Fax number can be obtained at registration table. Health certificate is acceptable in lieu of coggins.
B. There will be 9 shows in 2010. The date for the annual awards banquet will be announced at a later date. A General Membership meeting will be announced prior to the banquet.
C. Registration will start prior to 8 AM. Each show will begin at 8 AM. REGISTRATION BOOKS WILL BE CLOSED ONCE THE RESPECTIVE CLASS BEGINS. NO MONETARY REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. Halter classes will not begin before 9 AM.
D. Dress Code will apply to all SSRC approved classes. Failure to wear proper attire will result in disqualification of the contestant in that event at the judges’ discretion.
1. Western Classes - Current AQHA rules will apply. Final decision will be made by the Executive Board. Acceptable western attire with western hat/helmet and western boots is required. T-shirt type or golf/polo shirts are not allowed except for those designated SSRC t-shirt show dates.
2. Showmanship - Western attire ONLY required for showmanship as per AQHA rule 472.
3. English Classes - Proper attire will be boots, helmet, and proper attire according to breed of horse shown. Jackets are optional at the judges’ discretion. No rowel led spurs allowed din English classes.
E. A point system will be kept for awards. Points will be kept on 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. If less than 6 horses are in the class, points will be based on the number in class. (Example - if four horses are in the class, points will be 4-3-2-1).
1. Exhibition riders are not counted as being in the class for points.
2. Exhibition riders will not be given a back number, nor will they be placed in the classes in which they participate. They will fill out colored class cards for the classes they ride in. Exhibition rides will be held after the respective class. In judged events, exhibition riders must not interfere with the class. (Example - follow the announcer’s or the judge’s
instruction or be dismissed from the class).
F. After points have been posted, the rider has 2 shows to contact the secretary if he/she feels that an error has been made. After this time, the points will remain as posted, with the exception of the October and November shows. The October show must be checked at the November show and the November show must be checked within 10 days after completion. Points may be checked at each show or on the SSRC web site: www.silverspurridersclub.com.
G. Year end awards will be given in each class to the top six point earners provided they have SHOWN IN 5 OR MORE SHOWS, AND ACQUIRED A $100 SPONSOR. EACH member who qualifies for year end awards MUST acquire a $100 sponsor. EACH PERSON WORKING TOWARD A YEAR END AWARD MUST ACQUIRE A SPONSORSHIP BY THE APRIL 24 SHOW, OR THEY WILL FORFEIT ACCUMULATED POINTS. NEW MEMBERS MUST ACQUIRE SPONSORSHIPS WITHIN THREE MONTHS OF JOINING OR FORFEIT ACCUMULATED POINTS. Points will be awarded to the horse in halter regardless of who shows the horse. In all other pointed classes, the awards will be given to the horse/rider combination with the exception of a death or major injury to the horse verified with a veterinarian certificate. First place buckles will be awarded in sponsored classes and remaining awards will vary depending on finances available.
H. Tie Breaker: Contestants tying with points at the end of the year for any award shall have tied broken as follows:
1. First Tie Breaker - Contestant having the most 1st places in that class.
2. Second Tie Breaker - Contestant having the most 2nd places in that class.
3. Third Tie Breaker - Contestant showing the greatest number of times in that class.
4. Fourth Tie Breaker - Contestant placing over the greatest number of horses.
I. One contestant may ride one horse one time in each class for points. A second ride on the same horse will be for exhibition only. A second horse may be ridden and points will be received on the second horse only in trail, western riding and reining.
J. Breed association papers in which points are earned in open shows (such as PAC (Paint), OCAP (Pinto), and OEIP (Arabian) must be filled out completely by the contestant. A stamped envelope addressed either to the contestant or to the breed association must accompany the forms that the show secretary must complete. This will take care of SSRC mailing to respective associations or to the contestant. Otherwise papers will not be filled out at all. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you forget your envelope and postage, you may give the secretary $1 to cover this expense.
V. CLASSES:
CONTESTANTS NOT COMPLYING WITH CLASS RULES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE PROSPECTIVE CLASS OR CLASSES.
A. RULES: Classes will be judged and run referring to the 2010 AQHA Rule book with the exception of the rules stated in this SSRC rule book.
B. ENTRY FEES: Entry fees will be $10 per class. An All-Day ride fee of $60 will be allowed for one horse/one rider combination. ALL DAY RIDES DO NOT COVER WT FUNDRAISER, YOUTH FUNDRAISER, TRAINING FUNDRAISER OR ANY ADDITIONAL FUNDRAISER. For the 2010 show season, a $5 grounds fee will be charged per person with a cap fee of $10 per family membership to cover the arena cost.
C. NO SCHOOLING YOUR HORSE IN THE ARENA a manner that would disrupt other contestants. If a horse becomes unruly, the rider should pull to the center of the arena. This will be determined and enforced by the judge and/or the officers.
D. EQUIPMENT:
1. Western Classes:
a. A curb bit can be a solid or broken mouthpiece ridden with one hand. No mechanical hackamores.
b. Horses 5 years or younger may be shown in a snaffle bit or bosal and may be ridden 2 handed..
c. Prohibited equipment includes wire chin straps, martingales, nose bands or tie down, splint boots, and bell boots are allowed in hunter hack, lunge line, western riding and reining.
2. English Classes:
a. English snaffles (no shanks), Pelham bit with 2 reins, kimberwick and/or full bridle with caveson nose band.
b. No rowel led spurs.
E. GENERAL:
1. Rules: All classes to be judged according to AQHA rules unless specified in the 2010 SSRC rule book.
2. Patterns will be posted prior to the start of the start of the show. Pattern books will be available for a fee.
3. A JUNIOR horse is considered to be 5 years or younger.
4. A SENIOR horse is considered to be 6 years and older.
5. PEEWEE WT and PEEWEE WTL - PeeWees must choose between WT and WTL. PeeWee rider MAY NOT ride in both classes. PeeWee WT may exhibition in WTL classes for a $10 per class fee; not included in all day ride. Back number must be removed.
6. English Pleasure/Pleasure Saddle Type - Riders may choose this class in place of their appropriate age division class. THEY MAY NOT RIDE IN BOTH ON THE SAME HORSE!
7. 2010 weanling colts and fillies halter - this class is open to all breeds. ADULT MARES ARE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE HOLDING AREA, PROVIDED THEY HAVE A SEPARATE ANDLER AND THEY DO NOT PRESENT A DANGER/SAFETY ISSUE. IF THE MARE CAN NOT BE CONTROLLED, THE HANDLER MUST REMOVE THE MARE FROM BARN/ARENA AREA. Weanlings are only required to show 4 out of 9 shows for year end awards.
8. Pleasure/Saddle Type Halter - Includes Pleasure/Saddle Type horses and other horses that are NON-STOCK TYPE such as Arabians, half Arabians, Morgans, Saddlebreds, etc….
a. Halter to be a suitable headstall.
b. Whips or crops are optional, but may not exceed 6’ in length including lash. No thing maybe attached to the end of the lash (such as plastic or paper). Handlers are allowed to use items such as hat, grass, or treats to maintain horses’ attention.
c. Excessive use of the whip so as to disturb other entries will be penalized. Judge must excuse from the ring any horse bearing a whip mark (welt) and may penalize any horse showing signs of undue stress or inhumane treatment.
d. When evaluating Pleasure/Saddle Type horses in halter, emphasis shall be placed in the following order of importance: Type, Conformation, Quality, Movement, Substance, Manners and Presence. Transmissible weakness shall be considered a serious fault in mares and stallions. Stallions 2 years and older must have both testicles descended.
e. Horses are not to be stretched, at least one front and one rear cannon bone must be perpendicular to the ground. Standard stance is front feet square, one rear foot square and one slightly back.
f. All horses enter the arena at a trot, counter clockwise, continuing down the rail, around the end of the arena, and up the left hand side. Ringmaster is positioned in the front left hand corner, and when the first horse reaches him/her, they stop, parallel to the rail and set up.
9. Pony halter: This class is open to any equine that meets SSRC’s definition. Classes will be divided into mares and stallions/geldings. Handlers may be of any age; 18 and under may not show stallions.
10. Grand and Reserve Champion Halter:
The top 2 horses in each class will be called back to complete for Grand and Reserve Champion. In the case of a mixed gelding/stallion class, the top 2 geldings and top 2 stallions respectively will compete. In the case of the 2010 weanling class, the top 2 colts and top 2 fillies respectively will compete. A Grand Champion and a Reserve Champion halter horse will be awarded in each of the sexes…mares, geldings and stallions. The Grand Champion horses will receive 2 points while the Reserve Champion horses will receive 1 point. These “Champion of Champions” will be awarded as a Year End Award.
11. Helping Hands - Four classes are offered to individuals of any age with special needs. These classes are all age gendered halter, western pleasure,
horsemanship and trial. These riders are required to be a paid member of SSRC. No entry fees required in these classes. Individuals must have a responsibly trained handler in attendance to accompany them while on horseback at all times.
12. Walk Only - Open to all ages although individual cannot compete in any other walk/trot or walk/trot/lope classes. This class is to be a bridge for lead line walk trotters. An adult must accompany the rider but is not to touch the horse or rider; only in case of safety issues. A lead line and halter may be worn under bridal but should be attached to saddle horn or neck in case of emergency.
13. Color Class - This class is open to mares, stallions and geldings of any age of a DESIGNATED color breed. It is not required that the horse be registered to a color breed; only that it has the breed’s color description. This class is to be placed according to the judge’s choice. This class will not count toward All Around or High Point. Examples - Appaloosa, Paint, Pinto, Palomino, Buckskin, etc….
14. Judged Lead Line -
A. Ages 8 years and under.
B. May dress English or Western.
C. Lead lines MUST have a halter on over or under the bridle with a lead attached to the halter. Lead chains may not be attached under the chin, over the nose, or to the bit of the horse. Reins must be attached to the bit.
D. Child may ride any horse throughout the year.
E. Lead liners will be placed 1st - 6th in this class.
15. Western:
A. Junior horse WT Western Pleasure, Junior Horse WTL Western Pleasure, and Senior Horse Western Pleasure - These classes are designated as NOT counting for high point or all around. Junior horses are 5 years and younger. Senior horses are 6 years and over.
B. Novice Western Pleasure - A novice rider CANNOT cross enter Novice and Senior Western Pleasure regardless of horse ridden.
C. Western Pleasure - Pleasure/Saddle Types - Riders may choose this class in place of their appropriate age division class. They CANNOT ride in both.
16. Lunge Line: This class is open to yearlings and 2 year old horses ONLY of any sex. Attire may be English or western to compliment the way of going of the horse. This class will consist of two parts: (1) A confirmation inspection and (2) a lunging demonstration lasting 90 seconds. A. Conformation Inspection:
(1) Horse is walked to first cone and will pause for conformation inspection.
(2) After inspection, horse is trotted around second cone on the side of the arena.
(3) Stop and retire to the end of the arena to wait for lunging demonstration.
(4) A lead line, as in halter, with or without chain or lunge line with no chain maybe used in this phase.
(5) No splint boots allowed during conformation inspection.
B. Lunging Demonstration:
(1) Lead lines, if used, must be exchanged for a lunge line with NO chain.
(2) Splint boots MAY be used.
(3) Whips may be used, but not to strike the horse.
(4) Contestant will be given 90 seconds to show their horse at the walk, trot/jog and canter/lope in both directions.
(5) A 45 second warning will be given to inform the contest of time remaining.
